10 THINGS YOU NEVER KNEW ABOUT WOOSH BEAUTY
Sure, we make great makeup, but there’s so much more to us than lip gloss and lashes…
If you’re reading this you’re probably a Woosh Beauty fan already, and we love you for that. But even though you’d never leave the house without your Fold Out Face Palette tucked neatly in your purse, we bet there are a bunch of awesome things about us that you didn’t realize.
Read on for 10 facts about Woosh that are guaranteed to make you love us even more than ever. (If that’s possible, of course.)
1. Woosh Is A Clean Beauty Company
‘Clean’ can be a slightly confusing word in the beauty business. While it’s generally understood to encompass products that are free of potentially harmful ingredients, it’s not a term that’s regulated by the FDA – just like non-comedogenic and organic. And this makes it open to interpretation by beauty companies who don’t really give a fig about what goes into their products.
This can be worrying, for sure, but there are plenty of companies out there who strive to care for the world and look after your skin without pulling the wool over your eyes just to make a quick buck.
And we’re one of them.
We believe that for a company to be clean it should be free of common ingredients that may cause harm to your health, your skin or our planet. And because of these strong beliefs, we completely shun the likes of parabens, sulfates, formaldehydes, gluten, phthalates and PFAS (perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances for all you chemists out there). These are very common in the beauty industry but, frankly, we don’t want them anywhere near our skin or our precious oceans, so why should you?
2. We Create Makeup That’s Good For Your Skin
As well as being very strict about what doesn’t go into our cosmetics, we’re also very aware of what does. Makeup primarily exists to enhance your features and even out your complexion, but there’s no reason it can’t care for and protect your skin at the same time.
We pack a whole lotta goodness into our products and believe this gives us a real edge over the competition. For a bigger read about what makes our makeup so great for your skin, head here. In the meantime, here’s a quick rundown of some of our favorite ingredients, below.
- Vitamin E – literally all of our powders, concealers and eye shadows contain vitamin E to help hydrate and nourish your skin while protecting it from environmental, free radical damage.
- Shea Butter – packed with fatty acids and oh-so-good for your skin, shea butter is the ultimate moisturizer and the perfect addition to our Spin-On Lip Glosses.
- Titanium Dioxide – our Foundation Powders contain skin-friendly titanium dioxide to help shield your skin from the ever-harmful sun.
3. Woosh Brushes Are Only Ever Made With Synthetic Fibers
We're often led to believe that animal hairs are the only ‘real’ choice for your makeup brushes if you want the finest quality and the best results. Utter nonsense. In fact, synthetic bristles are far superior. For starters, no animals need to be harmed (more on that in a minute), but synthetic bristles are also more durable, half the price, much smoother and always the exact same shape, size and structure which means you’re guaranteed the best results, every time.
We believe brushes can make or break the final results of your makeup which is why our brush heads only ever contain synthetic fibers that are hand-crafted and vigorously tested. Why settle for anything else?
4. We’re Leaping Bunny Approved
Just like shopping for clean products, going cruelty-free is also a bit of a minefield. It’s all about those darn regulations again. Or lack thereof. The truth is there’s no legal definition for the term ‘cruelty-free’ which means that products claiming to be cruelty-free don’t always speak the whole truth. Sure, their finished product might not have been tested on animals, but there’s no guarantee that its raw ingredients weren’t.
So, what’s the solution if you want your make-up and beauty products to be truthfully cruelty-free? Simple. Look out for the Leaping Bunny certification which is your assurance that a product has completely adhered to strict rules on animal testing. We’re Leaping Bunny certified and very proud of it.
5. Vegans Love Us – And Rightly So
It’s important to remember that vegan and cruelty-free are not one and the same. In fact, they’re two entirely different things. While cruelty-free means a product and its contents have not been tested on animals (as long as they’re certified, that is), vegan means it doesn’t contain animal or animal-derived ingredients like honey, lanolin and beeswax.
Sadly, the two things don’t always go hand-in-hand. But the good news is, we check both boxes.
6. Our Corner Brush Is Unlike Anything Else
Not many makeup brushes can claim to be unlike any other. But our Corner Brush Eye Stamper is exactly that. With 11 patents to its name this genius eye tool is the only v-shaped brush out there and literally everything you never knew you needed in a makeup brush.
Why is it so great? Well, other than the fact that it’s totally unique (did we mention that?!), its v-shaped end has been cleverly crafted to make applying eyeshadow absolute child’s play. You simply press the ‘v’ into your shadow then stamp it around the outer corner of your eyes to line them instantly. You can also (and this is our favorite way to use it) press it along the outer edge of your brow bone, then flip it over and use the angled end to blend the color over your eyelids. Hello, smokey eyes in roughly 30 seconds flat.
Honestly, using this brush could not be simpler. And it's totally worthy of every single one of those patents.
7. Woosh Palettes Are Completely Plastic-Free
Did you know that if we don’t stop buying single-use plastics there could be more plastic in our oceans by 2050 than fish?
Sadly, the beauty industry is one of the worst offenders of plastic pollution. According to the Plastic Pollution Coalition, around 120 billion units of packaging is produced every year by the personal care and beauty industries alone. And this is expected to get worse before it has any chance of getting better.
Now, we’re no corporate giants, but just because we’re a small brand, it doesn’t mean we can’t do our bit. Since we launched back in 2015, we’ve always been very aware of our carbon footprint and consequent impact on the world. And this is why we made it our mission to create makeup palettes that laugh in the face of single-use plastics. Instead, our awesome Fold Out Face, Fold Out Complexion and Fold Out Eyes Palettes are crafted out of eco-friendly paper board. That calls for a group hug.
(As a side-note, our makeup brushes also work hard to be kinder to our precious world. Unlike many other inferior brushes, ours are created with wooden instead of plastic handles.)
8. All Refills Ship For Free, No Exclusions
Our palettes are our absolute best-sellers, but most fans don’t realize that refills of their favorite Woosh pans ALWAYS ship for free. Whether you’re stocking up on your entire Fold Out Face Palette, fancy trying some new shades or need just one small eye shadow refill, shipping is on us. It’s the least we can do.
9. We Love Fragrance… But Not In Our Makeup
Synthetic fragrance in cosmetics and skincare is one of the common causes of skin sensitivities, allergies and irritation, and we can’t imagine that’s something any of you want to experience.
Don’t get us wrong, we adore fragrance – check out some of our current favorites, right here – and we might even have something new and exciting launching before the end of the year that your sense of smell is going to crazy for. However, we know that fragrance doesn't belong in your foundation or, worse yet, in your eye makeup. So, we don’t run that risk and keep all synthetic fragrances well away from our cosmetics.
10. We Make It Super Easy To Find Your Ideal Match
For years makeup shopping was all about trying products in real life; feeling textures and matching colors to your skin tone. So, why on earth would you want to buy products online and forego all of that valuable 'trying and testing' time?
Yeah, we get that buying makeup online used to feel like playing Russian Roulette. But note the phrase ‘used to.’
We try to remove all the guesswork from online makeup shopping by helping you to find the perfect shades for your skin tone. Not only do we have a comprehensive guide to our numbered palettes which matches your skin tone to the correct shade, but we also have a simple but foolproof quiz that figures out which of our palettes is your ideal fit. What’s more, every palette comes with two different shades of concealer and foundation so you can switch them up as your skin tones changes throughout the year. You can even blend them together during those in-between months if you need to.
Some might say, we've thought of everything. They wouldn't be far wrong ;)
