#WOOSHAPPROVED: THE BEST EVER EARTH-FRIENDLY BUYS
With Earth Day just around the corner (April 22, since you asked) we thought we’d bring you some of our favorite planet-friendly must-haves. Because if we all do our bit – however small that may be – together, we can truly make a difference to the health of our precious planet. Single-use plastics, begone!
The Plastic-Free Floss
It might be one of the most yawnsome of personal care habits (with hair drying a close second?) but even if you loathe doing it, the importance of dental flossing is undeniable. Sigh. That being said, traditional floss can be terrible for the environment, being made of non-biodegradable materials and plastics that end up in oceans and landfills. So, does this give you the perfect excuse to forego flossing on the reg? Er, nope, not when Eco Roots Bamboo Floss exists to look after your teeth and gums without harming the planet. With not a shred of plastic in sight, this vegan gloss is crafted with bamboo fibers and activated charcoa. It also comes in a refillable glass jar with a recyclable metal lid. It's kind of a no brainer.
The Celeb-Fave Sweats
You know those colorful, off-duty sweats that celebrities like Jennifer Lopez and Kourtney Kardashian seem to live in – and still manage to look effortlessly amazing? Well, say hello to Pangaia, every A-lister and social media influencer’s favorite sustainable loungewear brand. Using innovative, earth-friendly materials like recyclable cotton, bio-based fabrics and eco-conscious dyes there is nothing not to love about the brand’s ethics, standards and high-quality swag which includes hoodies, tracksuits, tees and more. We’re currently obsessing over the DNA Hoodie which comes in a ton of gorgeous colors including this gorgeous raisin purple that’s perfect for cool, spring evenings. Although that being said, you’ll never want to take this bad boy off. And that’s a promise.
The Sneakers That Care
While we’re on the subject of celebrity-loved, planet-conscious fashion brands, we can’t forget one of Hollywood’s favorite sneakers, Cariuma. And most specifically these Naioca Leopard Print Canvas Sneaker which are a must this season – because animal print is huge for spring/summer ‘24, keep up! Made with ethically sourced organic canvas, natural rubber and recycled plastic and mesh, every detail has been meticulously thought out to take care of our planet. Heck, even the laces are organic. Not only that but these kicks are super comfy, extremely cool (on both the eye and on your feet!) and are 100 percent vegan. Cariuma also started their very own reforestation program in Brazil where two trees are planted for every pair of sustainable sneakers purchased.
Your Hair's New BFF
Let’s be honest, shampoo bars (like soaps, but for your hair… and, actually, not really soaps at all) can be risky business. Sure, they get the job done, but when it comes to reducing frizz or moisturizing dry, fragile hair they often feel a little, well, lacking. Not so with J.R. Liggett’s All-Natural Shampoo Bar. Crafted from natural ingredients like mango butter, almond oil and aloe vera, and made with zero sulfates, synthetic fragrance or harsh chemicals, each bar cares for your hair and scalp and is the equivalent of around two regular-sized bottles of liquid shampoo. All this means you get to save $$$s, look after your locks and do your bit for the planet at the same time. We call that a major win.
The Planet-Loving Laundry Detergent
Laundry detergents and the environment do not, a good couple, make. For starters, most of them come in heavy, plastic bottles that are non-reusable, non-recyclable and frankly, no good. When you take into account that, in North America alone, we wash over 30 billion loads of laundry every year, that’s a whole lot of plastic waste ending up in landfills. To lessen your load (no pun intended) switch to Dropps Laundry Stain & Odor Detergent which comes in recyclable, cardboard packaging and combines a balance of natural, plant-based enzymes alongside clean, synthetic ingredients (because not all synthetics are bad). With different fragrances to choose from and a completely unscented version for sensitive skin we are all in. Because, lest we forget, it also works really well.
Wooden Toys FTW!
Kiddo’s toys: nine times out of ten they’re made of cheap, single-use plastic that gets trashed after just a few months of use. And, unless you hand them on to others, where does all that plastic go? Landfills and bodies of water where they release harmful chemicals and take hundreds of years to decompose, doing literally no good to anyone, marine life included. Of course, the annoying thing is that plastic toys are usually the most affordable option, but if you don’t mind spending a few extra bucks the world will really thank you for it. So instead of plastic, look out for toys made of natural materials like organic cotton, bamboo or wood. Made from sustainably sourced beechwood, these Tiny Land Wooden Alphabet Blocks are a great place to start.
The Eco-Friendly Face Kit
As we’re sure you know, all of our products are clean, vegan, PETA certified and cruelty-free but one of this season’s absolute must-buys is our Woosh Fold Out Complexion Kit. Made with eco-friendly paper board, our Fold Out Complexion Palette offers everything you need for smooth, flawless-looking skin. Low on guilt and high on quality, this palette contains two curated-for-you foundation powders, two creamy concealers and a shimmer or blush for lightweight coverage and an instantly glowing complexion (which is a big trend for spring, btw!). It’s also entirely refillable (PLUS all refills ship for free, no questions asked!) and comes complete with our 4-in-1 Secret Brush which is made from Leaping Bunny certified synthetic bristles. In case you missed the memo, plastics and animal hairs are so not our jam.
The Thoughtful Jewelry Brand
When trying to be more conscious of your shopping habits, you might not immediately think of the impact your jewelry has on the planet. But more and more companies are committing to zero-waste programs, making it their mission to make more sustainable jewelry using recycled precious metals and ethically-sourced gemstones. So why wouldn’t you? Canadian jewelers, Poppy Finch, for example, sources all of its raw materials responsibly, working primarily with certified recycled solid gold; pearls from trusted, reputable suppliers, and high quality, conflict-free diamonds. Every piece is handcrafted locally in Vancouver, including this beautiful but understated Skinny Bead Ring that’s made of 14-karat gold beads and looks just as awesome on its own as it does stacked with the brand’s other just-as-awesome skinny rings. PS: the prices are great, too.
The Shorts You Won't Want To Take Off
Did you know the clothing industry creates around 105 million tons of trash every year? And however you look at those stats, that’s a worrying amount of waste building up in landfills and clogging up our oceans and rivers. If you’re not on board with that, the good news is that many fashion brands are trying their best to reduce those numbers. One such climate-neutral company is Canadian brand, Tentree who not only plants 10 trees for every purchase made (hence the name!) but also uses eco-conscious fabrics and sustainably sourced, traceable materials in order to preserve our precious environment and create the smallest footprint they can. Check out these insanely cute EcoWoven Crepe Shorts which we’re already planning to wear on repeat as soon as the sun comes out.
The World-Loving Wine
Female-founded Sipwell is a California wine company that’s all about sustainably farmed grapes delivered right to your door in the form of… don’t faint… canned wine. Hold on, wine in a can? That actually tastes good? Yes, truly. Each wine is produced from unsung varietals from lesser-known wine regions along California’s Central Coast. Why produce them in cans? Because aluminum is totally recyclable and much lighter to ship than glass bottles, that’s why. All of their wines are pretty delicious but if you only try one, go for the award-winning Tiny Victories Sparkling White Wine, a blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir that’s the first and only canned wine to ever make Wine Enthusiast’s Top 100 list. Bragging rights, right there.
The Only Make Up Brushes You Need
We hate the thought of applying our makeup using brushes made from squirrel, horse, pony or weasel (yes, that really is a thing) hairs. And correct us if we’re wrong, but you probably have the same reservations, right? Then you’re in the right place because our entire brush range is made from 100 percent synthetic bristles. But wait, there’s more. Our bristles are not only smoother, more durable and kinder to our furry friends than natural hairs, but each brush handle is crafted with hand-shaped, built-to-last wooden handles. Did someone say plastic? Not here, thanks very much. To dip your toe in the Woosh brush water, try our do-it-all Essential Brush Set which includes four expertly made dual-ended brushes designed to make concealing, contouring, shading and blending a total breeze.
Cotton Pads That Last
We love makeup as much as you do. But removing it at the end of the day with throw-away cotton pads? Not so much. You see, single-use cotton pads might seem innocent but cotton requires an insane amount of water in order to grow, making it one of the biggest culprits for water wastage. Not only that, but according to the WWF, conventional cotton production involves a whole host of fertilizers and pesticides which pollutes the earth and threatens our water systems. Couple all that with the fact that single-use cotton pads don’t naturally biodegrade and you can see why it’s wise to turn to more sustainable, earth-friendly options like The Earthling Co. Reusable Bamboo Cotton Rounds. Made from 98 percent bamboo terry plus 2 percent cotton these skin-friendly rounds are extremely soft, can be tossed in the washing machine and will last you for years.
