PARTY MAKEUP YOU CAN DO IN MINUTES

Party makeup can feel like a daunting prospect, especially when you’ve carved out zero time to get out of your sweats and into maximum glam mode.

But the thing is, unlike an hour of hot yoga, makeup should never make you break into a full body sweat. It should be fun and most important of all, it should be relatively easy. And yes, that goes for any kind of makeup look – no matter how intricate, glamorous and utterly masterful it may appear to the rest of the world.

So, if you have a big do coming up and know that your ‘getting ready’ time is going to be limited at best, you’re going to need some seriously speedy makeup tricks up your sleeve.

Thankfully, we can help with that. Read on for five easy party makeup tips that will have you ready to hit the dancefloor in no time.

Go Bold With Blush

A bold blush is a powerful thing. Unlike daily cheek wear that’s best kept relatively subtle, it can be super fun to play up your Blush in the evenings, making it the real hero of your makeup.

The key to getting it right, however, is not to overload your brush in one go. Instead, layer it over your cheeks, building up color as you go. Keep going until you can really see your blush and play around with placement, adding a dusting to the tip of your nose or working a little up and around the temple area for a flattering, face-lifting effect.

Of course, the color you choose still needs to flatter your skin tones. This means it’s best to choose warmer shades that contain undertones of orange or red if you have warm skin, and cooler blushes that are more pink in color if you have cooler skin tones.

PRO TIP: Gone a bit overboard? NP. Apply a light layer of foundation over the top to take it down a notch.

Big Up Your Lips

Strong lips are the best way to glam up your look without lifting a finger anywhere else. Maybe a bit of mascara will help top it off, but honestly, if you have naturally dark lashes you can truly work a dark lip with nothing else and look absolutely fabulous.

Getting your lip color to stay put, however, is no simple task. Especially if you want to avoid that tell-tale shriveled-dry pout that budge-proof lip formulations often leave you with. But allow us to give you some advice: try our new Monogamous™ Lip Stain. The best stain for long-lasting color, it offers the ultimate color pay-off, and it lasts for hours. Honestly, like hours. We’re particularly into Steadfast, a deep berry shade that’s ‘the’ color to wear right now.

PRO TIP: If you’re feeling in more of a glossy mood, pop Spin-On® Lip Gloss in Whisper in your purse for shiny top-ups all night long. More good news: you can snag both of these and save $$$s with our Lip Sitch bundle!

Master The Simple Smoke

Doing a smoky eye might not be front of mind when you’re in a rush to crush quick, party makeup. Big mistake. Turns out, smoky eye makeup doesn’t have to take forever. In fact, The Smokeshow does all the hard work for you, making it so easy, you’ll want to smoke out your eyes on a daily basis.

Here’s how it works. First, use your personalized concealer to prime and smooth out your eyelid and under eye area, then dip the v-shaped end of the Corner Brush into your dark brown eye shadow – brown is way more flattering than black, in case you didn’t know. Press this onto the upper, outer corner of your eye lid, between your top lash line and the tip of your eyebrow. This creates the perfect angle to work with. You can then gently drag the brush inwards, smudging color over your eyelid, until you get the exact amount of color you want.

When you’re done, flip the wand over and use the brush at the other end to line your eyes with black shadow. And that’s basically it. Obviously, Like Magic Mascara is the perfect tip on the iceberg, but you’d be doing that anyway, right? So what’s an extra two, three minutes max to create this killer smoke? Nothing, is the answer. Absolutely nothing.

PRO TIP: Try two coats of mascara for that extra fierce factor.

Know That Powder Foundation Takes Seconds

If all you want to do is smooth out your skin and blur out any redness or pimples (quick question: why do zits ALWAYS crop up at the most inopportune moments?), powder foundation is the only way to go. Powders are way easier and quicker to apply than messy liquids or heavy creams, plus they’re far more lightweight so you don’t need to spend extra minutes checking every inch of your face to make sure you’ve sufficiently blended it in.

Our Foundation Powders are everything when it comes to swift makeup, plus our Fold Out Complexion® Kit comes not only with two shades to seamlessly match your skin, but also a couple of creamy concealers for extra help where you need it, and a shimmer for a bit of zheuzh over your brow and cheek bones. Because what’s party season without a little shimmer between friends?

PRO TIP: Swap out one of your Foundation Powders for a Bronzer refill to give your skin a gorgeous, kissed-by-the-sun glow. Who cares that there's no sun right now? Just fake it. But subtly, of course.

Strengthen Your Eyebrows

Strong eyebrows and a quick kiss of lip gloss are just as good as any party makeup look. So get your brows in shape with a bit of deft plucking and some color definition and the rest of your face will need little else.

Brow pencils are great if you like their waxy finish or want just a small amount of accurate detail, but for a softer, denser, more natural-looking brow, powder is your better friend. You can even use your favorite brown eye shadow if it’s easier. Just remember to choose a shade that’s as close to your natural brows as possible, then use a firm angled brush to ‘push’ it onto the skin – you’ll find one on the end of all of our eye brushes.

PRO TIP: Never be tempted to draw horizontal lines when filling in your brows. Eyebrow hairs don’t naturally grow in that direction so this will look all kinds of wrong. Instead, use vertical or slightly angled lines that are short (like eye brow hairs) and not too thick (ditto!).
